This one was hard to write. The writing wasn’t the hard part.

(to caveat: not arguing against the lockdown order at all, which seems completely warranted, just wondering about its spillover effects on other things)

What is the effect on the Michigan election if ~10K student voters all leave back for home in the next few weeks? Have to imagine this deals a big blow to turnout

Still getting used to living in a swing state. The bar a block from my house in a national Biden ad... And yes -- we need to save music venues! Stream live shows whenever you can!

This from a president actively working to undermine the professional civil service ("the deep state"), perhaps our most important institutional bulwark against this type of politics. As our "coalition for bureaucratic autonomy" collapses, we should expect more and more of this

To channel , we already have some words for this... at least when it happens in poor countries with "weak" institutions Weirdly, through norm violations, Trump is making American democracy more "normal" in a (perverse) way -clientelism like this is very common elsewhere

That doesn't mean this all isn't an important development that's worth taking seriously -- it is. But this article seems to take things way out of proportion to what is actually happening so far, as is being reported in more detail by the Ghanaian press.

As far as I'm aware, to date these activists have staged a single attack. They also put up some signs (in the photo of the article) declaring a "Western Togoland" that were quickly taken down by the police and burned an unoccupied bus.

Have seen this article circulating on Twitter and find the framing problematic/misleading. The region (which is not a single region) did not "declare sovereignty." A small group of activists did, with very unclear support even in their core communities.

People say it was awful. But return to these basic questions. Biden said if he wins, he’ll keep the ACA, add a public option, support Roe v Wade, enact a climate change plan. Trump defended his record and attacked Hunter Biden, but didn’t really say what he’d do if re-elected.

This is all such a disgrace for America

Worth noting that Trump was asked to condemn white supremacists, said he would, changed the subject, and never did.

This isn't a debate. It's a DDOS attack happening in front of a human moderator.

Chris Wallace constantly lets Trump interrupt Biden and then reframes his question in a more Republican way.

Every single exchange: Trump talks for two minutes. Biden talks for 30 seconds or so, Trump interrupts, it devolves into shouting. Wallace then asks Trump the next question. And on and on.

I think Biden should just walk out and leave. He's not being allowed to speak. This isn't serious and its a waste of everyone's time.
