Worrying reports from our friends about a Mears-run hostel in Wakefield. Residents are ONLY JUST receiving masks and hand sanitiser - after months of appalling conditions

The No Evictions Network is deeply shocked and saddened by what happened today at the Park Inn Hotel. Our thoughts go out to all those involved and their families. Our focus at this time is continuing to support the people being accommodated in the hotels. (1/2)

While we commend the improvement in food in Maclays Guesthouse, promise to make noone homeless after being moved from hotels + commitment to no lock changes. We ask - HOW CAN WE TRUST YOU WHEN WE HAVE CLEAR EVIDENCE OF YOUR LIES THUS FAR?

    6. Mears say they refer people to Migrant Help if they've complaints - evidence collected by 3rd sector organisations shows referrals to MH aren't effective, ppl can spend 2-3 hours waiting on the line to them (this is ppl with no financial support whatsoever for top-ups)

    4. Mears said they've tried to "engage constructively" w/NEN. We've emailed directly w/ concerns + they've failed to answer adequately. We've asked John Taylor for a Zoom meeting to discuss these further w/ ourselves + ppl in hotels but have no response in 2 weeks...

    3. Mears are still intent on refusing to believe cases of healthcare access being refused. We have several people who would like to speak to journalists regarding this point who have directly been refused access to a doctor or healthcare professional by Mears.

"we risk assessed which service users it was appropriate to move, taking account health advice...any identified vulnerabilities were taken into account before moves took place". John Taylor blatantly lied covering up their incompetence until they were forced to tell the truth.

    1. Mears claim our campaign is based on a minority of people we are speaking to. There are ~100 people currently refusing food in 1 hotel. All the people we've spoken to (over 60) in hotels have had issues with something. THIS IS NOT A SMALL MINORITY OUT OF 400.
