Microsoft has given us TypeScript, VSCode, open sourced the .NET framework and many other things recently. They even joined the Linux Foundation. What has Apple done for "us" lately in Open source? GitHub had to be bought or go public. This was the best outcome.

Apple has given us swift and a lot of their imaging standards are open sourced.

That's why I said lately. I'd honestly be more nervous about Apple buying Github (doesn't fit their strategy, and they like to really "own" a whole stack.) I didn't say they don't do open source -- look at Darwin and WebKIt (see https://opensource.apple.com/ ). I said lately.

True nuf Apple is prolly the company that had the least open source contributions. You heard that they are moving away from BSD for MacOS too right?

Didn't hear, I just know Darwin BSD (or whatever) isn't very publicly disclosed. I mean there is webkit. And swift. But it's very few and sparse compared to Microsoft's leaps into our realm
