Normalize NOT ascribing blanket "hero" status to an entire profession, which makes the public complicit in covering for bad actors and upholding systemic problems, and diminishes the accomplishments of ACTUAL heroes.

I'm reminded of Chris Rock's "American Airlines can’t be like, ‘Most of our pilots like to land. We just got a few bad apples that like to crash into mountains. Please bear with us."

A whole other problem with the “hero” status is that when we describe, say, teachers and nurses as heroes it becomes somehow unseemly and selfish for them to expect decent pay.
-
Only when the profession is dominated by women. If dominated by men (coughpolicecough), they expect, & get, beyond decent pay.

Except I'm kind of convinced that at least 90% of front line hospital workers are actually heroes right now.

I think you could start that sentence with "and." Some professions are more likely to put their members in situations where heroic action is seen and needed, which makes conflating the two easy. I feel like for me it's trying to emphasize the actions, not the job title.
