I said no to that too, naturally. But it really is telling, sometimes, when people noticeably don't listen to you beyond where you fit into their agenda.

(And for those wondering, I've said this in multiple interviews, but I did it bc at the time I was an academic starting to publish papers, and thought the initials would separate my fiction writing from my academic writing. [Yeah, this was before natural language processing.])

From an email I sent agent at the time: "'Let us highlight women in the industry, who already get paid less than they should, by giving your work away for free!' I wonder if they've really thought that through." Not surprised to see the final product's intersectionality fails.
