The Oregon GOP was like this 30 years ago. Back then, it was the Lon Mabon types vs the Mark Hatfield types.

Some data: I live in MA and am Unenrolled. The state GOP here is also bats**t insane but despite that, we have a moderate Republican Governor who is popular (vaccine missteps aside). The MA GOP hates Baker but the majority of Unenrolled (54% of voters) are happy.
