In fact, Google built Linux based ChromeOS around the Chrome browser due to its strong sandboxing and other security features. But, privacy remains a primary concern apart from the monoculture issue with Google Chrome.

Either way, we are at the mercy of Google for web standards as they can change those as per their needs ;) Hence, alternate browsers such as Firefox and others must continue to develop independently of Google for better future of web and privacy.

FYI, on Apple iOS, safari is the only real browsers. Rest are just skins around the safari engine as Apple forces iOS WebKit framework and WebKit Javascript for everyone, or your app get rejected. Not sure how Apple got away with antitrust issues?

Chrome is IE6 all over again. It’s implementing proprietary APIs – ostensibly “open” – and shunning web standards it doesn't like to create vendor lock-in. How can we have possibly already forgotten where that took us 20 short years ago?

I think most browsers are based on chromium for Google's practices and nothing else.

The "most secure browser" probably would be somewhat modified from the standard Chromium source, and do things like altering the contents of _utma cookies everytime it sends them back in order deliberately to poison online trackers.
