If anything, I'd say the biggest problem character-wise with the sequels is that Rey gets overshadowed by Kylo Ren. Her arc is a little... ambulatory. But that she gets more of an arc than Finn and Poe isn't actually that surprising.

The OT didn't really focus on Han and Leia. They're important characters but the idea that they were Luke's co-stars is something that came after the fact because they were popular.

The exception is Empire, where the Leia and Han romance clearly *is* front and center as a counterpoint to Luke's training. But in A New Hope and Return of the Jedi, Luke is clearly the viewpoint character and the lead protagonist.

Anyhow, my point is not that there isn't room to complain about Poe and Finn getting axed but I also think a lot of that is wishing *they* were the main character instead of Rey and well... they weren't. Poe wasn't even supposed to survive his escape in the shooting script.
