This is remarkable. As the reply from Allan Guelzo suggests, the responses of the ‘research desk’ merely attempt to circumvent the important points of the letter, without properly addressing them. Why can’t people directly respond to, or just accept, honest criticism anymore?

Either the points were too sophisticated for it, or them, meaning the desk, to grasp, or they were evaded intentionally. I’m sure the historians involved with the letter were aware of everything used as attempted rebuttal of their concerns.
