[2/3] There were several other issues not described in the letter that killed my personal confidence in the data. Ultimately, given no good explanation was ever given for how the anomalies occurred, myself and coauthors were unwilling to reanalyze and submit a correction.
[3/3] The only option was to remove ourselves from the paper (and even this proved difficult). As we're no longer authors. Jonathan Pruitt will be allowed to reanalyze the data and submit a correction on his own.
I can't believe the journal would not let you retract the paper. Crazy.
I also had a situation where a coauthor wouldn’t agree to retraction. So I collected new data and wrote it up to override the first. It wasn’t bad data it was misinterpreted. And dogmatic colleague.
Thanks for your work pushing for retraction! Embarrassing by the editors of @RSocPublishing to be so weak in their response.
@RSocPublishing has lost all credibility w/ me, personally. Their consistent refusal to retract obviously flawed & questionable science makes clear that they are not interested in sound science.
Please back off on @RSocPublishing here, they are being thorough and careful. This isn't over yet. The Editor, Spencer Barrett is devoting incredible thought and effort to this very stressful process. I have nothing but praise for him, knowing some of what's behind the scenes

I've posted a dozen other replies to other posters here. Be patient with @RSocPublishing. They are working hard on this to be fair and rigorous. Trust me, if you saw behind the curtain you'd back off on this.
