I transitioned in my early 30s and the in the first conversation with my doctor he said "well I'm surprised you would even bother now". The idea always is to deny transition to kids and then if they make it through, turn that struggle into a virtue worth holding on to

as an adult I am told that I waited this long, why not wait longer. Or the questions I got from family: you built this whole life, why throw it away now? Never was it, you constructed a shell narrative to survive and how can we help you take it down?

people love to keep the gates intact and then ask if you don't just want to go back once they're in the rearview. The logic of make trans kids wait until they're adults when you can make a rational decision doesn't matter when you just rewrite your discrediting tactics for adults

like, even now, years after I came out, when I talk to some of the people closest to me about upcoming surgeries, they ask me why. Why don't I just wait? Really make sure? You waited this long. If you turn waiting into a long con then you never have to improve or change.

anyway, surprise, all the arguing with guys that have cartoons of how they see themselves for avatars has put me in my feels.

This is so real and painful. I started at 32 and between the “wait longer” crowd and then the number of times people asked “don’t you think it might be too late?” it makes you wonder what the hell the “right time” to transition even is.

The answer for the transphobes, is never. Their goal is to make transition as difficult, as unpleasant as possible, so that we don't transition.

I can’t believe the way drs talk to people, and I think it’s much worse in Canada than the US (bedside manner, maybe because of the huge dr salaries in America). Also shows that that dr thinks women expire in their 30s 🙄 I’ve become exponentially more powerful in my 30s

It pervades so many trans forums too. People despairing that they're 20 and "it's too late".

I started transitioning around 5 months before I turned 25 and I thought it was too late, despite having known several people who started transitioning later.
