I like the way you said that, by choosing words more carefully, they can be more authentic. There is this assumption, I think, that "off the cuff" remarks are more authentic, and sometimes that's true — but not always.

I think it depends both on the person (some are just not very textual) and what we mean by authenticity. I don’t believe people have one true self; but many feel the “self” they manage to inhabit in rushed, noisy face to face interaction is .. compromised, relative to aspiration.
