I probably need to read up a lot more on how the compiler works, but I guess a lot of people are wondering why the borrow check can’t be done in parallel with the llvm codegen - ie assume the borrow check will succeed and interrupt llvm if you find an error.

No fundamental reason. We are working on parallelizing rustc which should then permit that.
