    Also, if you've never seen Taxi Driver, Martin Scorsese summarises the whole thing for you in just over a minute. Weird how nobody gave a toss about spoilers back then.

    Bezier was far from perfect. I tried 1000 things and shipped the best 100. But one thing I was happy with was the radar. Action game radars are either a) too small or b) too far away for the eyes. Bezier's surrounds the player's ship requiring just shifts of focus back & forth.

    The problem with User Interfaces for video games is firstly, nobody has a clue. Even the experts don't know what'll work. So you have to try everything and slowly rule it out. So the code gets very messy. And secondly, you get it wrong and your game is dead. It's that important.

    And I bet a tenner every game's User Interface code can't get to shipping without having turned into an awful mess. I can't port this. Time to start fresh.

    Ugh. User Interfaces. I forgot all about User Interfaces. Does every game need one? Would anyone notice if it wasn't there? Ugh.

    Remember my creed: Every programming problem involving strings can be solved by not using strings. What's that? You have to use strings? No. Think about it some more and then don't use strings.

    It's very easy to over-romanticise working on the Switch, so I'm going to spend the next few months doing just that. It really is magic. I make a call to clear the screen and think, "wow, Mario is making this exact same API call."

    Found a TODO.txt in the old Bezier project today and it is full of line items of things I had left to put in the game and try out. Nearly 1500 lines.
