yeah I have just noticed it in a bunch of posts and pieces this week, from people who I'm sure don't mean it badly, so! That one wasn't hard for me to lose for whatever reason, but I definitely struggle with others.

Oh, Nicole, I loved you and your work already, but as a cane (and sometimes walker or wheelchair) user who is also a mom to a full-time wheelchair using kiddo, seeing someone say this who doesn’t have to say it from a place of experiencing this ableism... thank you so damn much.

I’d never thought of this before. Thanks for raising it. How do y’all feel about words like this and “mute” which were used in ableist ways in the past, but aren’t common language anymore? Mute is now often about social media, but obviously had other implications.

This is why it's difficult to defend liberals.

Because we give a fuck when members of marginalised groups ask us not to use language that hurts them? Wow, yes, so indefensible!

I never even thought of it as an ableist term, but you're right! From now on, I'll try to be more mindful and not use it when I find something uninteresting. Thanks for putting that out there.

I use "tiresome" as my go-to substitute. Or "dull." "Banal."

"naff" or "wet" works well specifically for something that's just a bit lacking in coolness
