Nigerians make up by far the largest population of African immigrants living in the US — about 327,000. In 2018, the US granted Nigerians almost 14,000 green cards. They're asking, "Why us?" via

I’ve been working on this—my first feature—for months. It’s the story of one family, split in half for no reason by Border Patrol. It’s also a story of how completely US border policy has changed in past yr. Lemme (ahem) explain. 1/

Remember that time CBP said there was no directive targeting Iranian and Shi'a travelers? Yeah, I certainly hope you didn't believe them. Will post copy of directive in thread, along with some thoughts.

SCOOP: The Trump administration has named a hardline former leader of an anti-immigration group to help set up a new role created by Congress to oversee complaints of civil rights violations in detention centers, according to an internal memo I obtained.

BREAKING: Speaker Pelosi has announced that the House will vote No Ban Act. This is a huge deal for American Muslims. We believe will be the 1st time a bill to specifically protect American Muslims will be voted on. Ever.

The rule will affect immigrants applying for green cards in every state but Illinois for now. Once the State Department finalizes accompanying forms, it will also affect those applying for green cards abroad. via

Gorsuch uses the opportunity to slam nationwide injunctions: "The real problem here is the increasingly common practice of trial courts ordering relief that transcends the cases before them.”

Two years ago, we reported that U.S. immigration policy might drive high-skilled workers from around the world to Canada. This month I went to Toronto to find out if we were right.

Meanwhile, , which has long lobbied against birthright citizenship, offers a wildly inflated estimate of 33K births in FY 2017. It relies on gov't data on foreign-born mothers, which includes naturalized citizens, green card holders, etc.

We really don't have good data on birth tourism. Even the figure that's been widely cited in the media (about 10K in 2017) includes all babies born to foreign residents — only a fraction of which probably came on the visitor visas that Trump is targeting.

The birth tourism aspect of this new rule is getting all the attention, but this thread explains that anyone coming to the US for medical treatment will face higher barriers to travel. Can't say it clearly enough: The current US regime hates people who can be called "other."
