I did! A lot of interesting points buried within a blog post of ignorance. Diversity should encompass more than gender & racial diversity but our field should excel in their science and efforts to diversify it. If folks can't handle that, don't be mad at those of us who can.

I hear you for sure, however I do agree that a series of filters than principally score candidates on only two metrics of diversity is not a good method and ultimately does not achieve the goal.

By retweeting this it comforts a certain group of people who do not think you can be extremely intelligent and be inclusive or diversify your field at the same time. This system isn't perfect and needs more metrics but I'd rather that than hiring all white folks with old money.

I agree that the system isn’t perfect. My intention to retweet this is agree with the author in their assertion that 2 metrics of diversity is not a good mechanism to diversify academia. This eliminates other forms of diversity (socioeconomic class, politics viewpoints)

I respect critiques that are not coming from a place of ignorance. We can critique aspects of this process without implicating, like many white folks have done here, that we are letting less qualified people be successful. Thank you for discussing & sharing your views.

It is perfectly reasonable to value broad diversity in academia or elsewhere and disagree with the current mechanisms universities are using to increase narrow diversity. Both can be true.

Just make sure your vehement outspokenness about diversity statements is because you all want to see more underrepresented groups included and you're not threatened by your own lack of diversity involvement or biases.

Yup as I said I do value diversity in academia and 100% agree that diverse perspectives stemming from diverse backgrounds and experiences are extraordinarily beneficial in academia.
