"This isn’t about political correctness. It’s about a man accused of dragging his girlfriend into his car, shooting at a witness who saw him assault her, and warning the girlfriend that he would shoot her if she told anyone what had happened."

never questioned his intellect, judgment, or honor.
The person that did was self-important and more interested in his own fortune than justice. Oh and the racism ain’t hard to miss.
Mark Pomerantz quit @ManhattanDA office in a huff over the Trump case. Now he’s on a book/TV tour, carping about his former boss. (Also my former boss. More on that later). Pomerantz may think he's the smartest guy in the room but his judgment is (1/x) https://nytimes.com/2023/02/03/nyregion/trump-mark-pomerantz-book.html…
California has more gun regulations than any other US state. The recent mass shootings in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay have left legislators asking what additional steps they can take, but gun safety experts say federal support is crucial.

Nearly 60% of Americans experience the trauma of gun violence in their lifetime, whether it’s witnessing gun violence, being threatened or wounded with a gun, or having a loved one wounded or killed with a gun. This #GVSurvivorsWeek, lift up their stories: http://momentsthatsurvive.org
On this day in 1960, four black college students staged a sit-in at a whites-only lunch counter at Woolworth's in Greensboro, NC.
They sparked a national movement across the country. Instructions were simple: sit quietly and wait to be served. #BlackHistoryMonth
’s #MomentsThatSurvive story wall. This story is mine and since it was original posted it has ended tragically with the suicide of my ex husband. #GVSurvivorsWeek.
released a new report on crime guns and firearms trafficking. Lot to unpack, but if you read past the technical language, the culpability of the gun industry as a #killerbusiness becomes apparent:
This all means that when you read about "record gun purchases" and see gun companies, like Glock, high-fiving over profits, a knowable, predictable portion of these sales are fueling our gun violence and crime epidemic.
A #killerbusiness indeed.
The faster a gun moves from a dealer to a crime scene, the more likely it was bought with the intent to use criminally or trafficked.
25% of guns were recovered in a crime within a year of a dealer sale, nearly 10% under three months!
Of the traced firearms, 1.3 million were pistols, nearly 20% of which where manufactured by Glock.
Glock profited off of 255,055 gun sales, and then their guns were used in crimes -- where *we* pay the price.
1,922,577 crime guns were submitted to ATF for tracing from 2017-2021. Nearly 2 million guns! nearly all of which were originally sold for profit that went to the gun industry before they were used by criminals.

Guns are the leading cause of death for children and teens and the gun industry does almost nothing to change that.
My thoughts on how this #killerbusiness is part of America's gun violence crisis.
Anthony Alexander Jr., 17, had just learned he was going to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for saving two children from an icy pond in Pennsylvania. Over the weekend, he was unintentionally shot and killed by a friend.
jumped into my comments to call me a liar and when I gave him a cite and called him out for the gun industry's indifference to kids begging for action, he blocked me. Which tracks.
One fact he cant block: guns are the leading killer of children and teens.

volunteers, survivors, and partners meeting with legislators to talk about the steps Maryland is going to take this legislative session to address our gun violence epidemic #MDGA23#MDpolitics🧵
Students Demand Action leaders confronted the gun industry at SHOT Show in Vegas to demand they:
- Secure their supply chains
- Market their products responsibly, never to kids and teens
- Call out and refuse to work with bad actors in the gun industry
LIVE now: CA has the strongest guns laws in the US & some of the weakest in the Western world.
We will once again ask: what will it take to end this crisis?

Hold the school and admin accountable?
Yes.
The parents?
For sure.
But what about the gun manufacturer that designed a lethal weapon that could be operated effectively by a 6yo?
I say yes. For comparison, by design, a 6yo cannot open a bottle of aspirin.

For decades, the industry has also used the appeal of fully automatic weapons to market and sell semi-automatic versions to civilians — like the Cobray M11 used here. But we’re the ones paying for these deadly decisions every day. 4/4
But every year, the gun industry pumps out hundreds of thousands of high-cap mags and assault weapons, and lobbies for looser silencer laws. Some companies even sell DIY kits that allow people to build untraceable silencers at home. 3/x
And it has a threaded barrel, making it easy for the shooter to attach a homemade silencer — and making it harder for people to figure out where shots came from.

The #MontereyPark shooter’s Cobray M11 is considered an assault pistol in CA because it has certain features and uses high-capacity magazines, which lead to 5X as many victims in mass shootings. 1/x
