    More to share that speaks volumes about this crew: They did it on spring break. Five students working across four states, some with baffled families looking on, calling sources relentlessly, knocking on doors in Norman and always communicating with one another.

    Q3: Many editors think they aren’t good at writing headlines. Or they find it very difficult. But it is difficult. And it’s important. And that means it’s a thing that makes you valuable as an editor. This comes naturally to few people. It can be practiced and learned.

    Q3: Remember that headlines are read **instantly**. Readers aren’t going to study headlines. If it isn’t immediately understandable, it is no good.

    Tone is also important here. A light story should have a fun headline. A serious story needs a headline that plays it straight. Many editors have fun when they shouldn’t, and vice versa.
