I dont know if you’ve noticed but the concept of a sort of secular version of sin has developed over the last 10-15 years. Wrongthinkers are smote and their heads put on a metaphorical pike outside of institutions, companies, and social media forums.
As if society needs something very like religion, and removing it just causes a synthetic substitute to appear.
Lack of a "3rd place". Which some people argue is now social media, so we shouldn't be surprised it's such a battleground. Imagine cramming all the organised religions into the same place of worship! Carnage!
