I will forever be grateful for the support, candid advice and generosity she showed to me during my time as Lib Dem leader and beyond. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

So, so sad that Shirley has passed away. Her warmth, commitment to progressive ideals and, above all, her wisdom were a constant inspiration down the years to so many.

Shirley Williams has been an inspiration to me and so many others and I am sorry for that she is gone from this world. Her thinking, intelligence and intrinsic humanity is needed more than it ever was. RIP Shirley Williams.

Shirley Williams as a founder of the SDP was a political Lioness of her time. In 1982 at the Crosby By-Election I was honoured to have assisted in her campaign and listened to her speeches .A devout Catholic no doubt in heaven now.
