Flagging again that ~75 people worked at Ozy. I've been on the phone w lots of them. They're reading all of the stories & tweets. This is very hard for them. A lot of them did great work. It's unfair to say Ozy was a "sham." The correct framing is that it was woefully mismanaged.

A diverse lot as well. Ozy people, ping me. We’re hiring and help many others hire too.

Charu was one of the best editors I ever had the opportunity to work with, with a genuine interest in important Indonesia & Japan, and regional stories other western outlets didn't care about. For that, I'll miss OZY.

Central to OZY's achievements: a team of 200+ top-quality freelancers I'm proud to have helped build and lead. YOU made it all possible. Working with you has been one of the biggest highlights of my time at OZY.

The joke’s on Charu because for all the love he’s dishing out to other OZY survivors, he’s almost certainly the nicest person on this planet. HE WINS. I challenge anyone to prove that I’m wrong.

The incomparable — In the madness of Washington, this uber brilliant political reporter cut through the noise, shining a light on the biggest stories and upcoming stars before everyone else. He's also 1 of nicest human beings ever. Waiting for you in India, my friend.

It won't be the only thing people remember from this mess, but I'm glad this was the quote they used in closing this strange, sordid chapter.

This is a fairly interesting piece in that it's one of just a few to go deep into all the hard, good work the team put in while facing extreme obstacles and conditions every single day

Some of us who have had a few months, or years, to process their time at OZY have felt a lot of PTSD this week. For those who are just newly leaving, be kind to yourself and take the time you need to get right.

I said OZY should cease to exist. I stand by that: The news product couldn't keep its credibility after leadership's deception. It's still a tragedy though. We sweat blood and tears for years to move mountains — and sometimes did. It's hard to see that disappear in a week.

Anybody who has written for over the years, I definitely recommend backing up your articles ASAP. Authory is a good way to do so (this is my referral link, you'll get a free first month). It does take 24-48 hours.

He has also invested in rural education and workforce development without being condescending, a real feat a Congressman from Silicon Valley didn't have to take on

In the meantime, I'm also looking for virtual coffee dates with anyone operating in the prison education space. DMs are open, or reach out at charlotte@opencampusmedia.org

So and I spent a while this week going through years worth of social analytics for Ozy. You can listen to that journey here: But today's Garbage Day is full write up of what we learned. Let's dive in shall we?

The actual content the journalists at OZY have produced is really great. I hope people recognize that the failures of executives does not discount the wonderful reporting/content the editorial team put out!

Many of us were shocked then when Carlos told that we had reached $50m in revenue and hit profitability in 2020 As reported, it was 50% over the previous year's revenue.
