Govt pushing to ensure dangerous terrorist prisoners cannot be released. Looking at creating a Terrorism Public Protection Panel within the Parole Board (with judges who have dealt with terrorist cases) which could rule that a prisoner presenting an ongoing threat is not released

Once emergency legislation passed there will be a longer term review of length of counter terrorism sentences. Feeling in Whitehall that sentence for possession of extremist material (Streatham attacker Sudesh Amman has been convicted of this) not harsh enough

If inmate judged a danger at end of sentence then they will be subject to a TPIM - terrorist prevention and investigation measure involving surveillance and restrictions on who they can see and visit

Changes apply to all current prisoners convicted of terrorist offences. But no change under this new legislation to original length of current sentences. So inmates definitely released no later than end of sentence

So emergency legislation, to be on statute book by 13 February, to end automatic release of terrorist offenders half way through sentence. Release moved to two thirds of sentence if parole board decides offender not a threat

So 9 month delay. Will Quince, min for welfare delivery: ‘It is right that we revisit our forecasts and plan, and re-plan accordingly - ensuring that the process is working well for people on benefits. Claimants will not lose money due to this forecasting change.’

Big day today -my last working for the BBC. Lot of water under the bridge since 19 Nov 1976! It’s been a pleasure ( mostly!) and a privilege working here, in London and elsewhere to listen to and tell the stories of your lives. Thanks for the company. On to pastures new !

A feeling of sadness in the Jess Phillips camp. One ally tells me: Jess has done really well. We needed her voice in this campaign. I had hoped she would be in the campaign for longer. Sadly it’s not to be
