The implication is that now I'm much more willing to write ugly horrible hacks, duplicate code with slight modifications, and commit other programmer sins if the result is a better end user experience.

Over the past couple years, my approach to software engineering has been undergoing some transformation which I can't quite articulate yet, but if pressed I would put it this way: as a programmer, the binary that your code produces is a more valuable artifact than the code itself

Experimenting with manually writing SSE intrinsics for the first time, and got burned by the alignment requirement (my vector wasn't aligned properly)... but what's odd is that it only crashed when compiled with no optimizations, with -O3 it worked fine. Can someone explain why?

At least at Google there was no such requirement to begin with (I assume at others, too). To get an H1B visa, you still are required to have an undergraduate degree in the relevant field. In other words, nothing has changed at all.

After a heated argument with parents, stormed out and slammed the door so hard the glass shattered and cut a vessel in my foot. The giant puddle of blood in my linkin-park-poster-plastered room looked extremely edgy. I was thirteen, I think...

Well, I guess everyone needs to write a Sudoku solver at some point. Here's mine (blog post): (approx 5µs per puzzle on average, so pretty fast).

Hand Contact No.3: Reactive Dimples - raycasting through the finger joints, spawning dimple meshes, animating them using the raycast depth and aligning them to the hit point normal. Real squishy feeling

The light this morning had a slightly reddish tinge from the particulates in the air - a nice demosntration of rayleigh scattering. While I lowkey dig the semi-ominous atmosphere it creates, I wish the fires would stop :/

Now this is hilarious, from my English schoolbook, an essay for programmers beginning out by Dylan age 11 - check the teacher’s note for an extra laugh!

In 2012 I took a course in computer graphics. Things like these were spoken about as if they were science fiction. And now, six years later, here we are.
