just a commonsense view that when you buy a stock, you're paying for future cash flows. depending on how you look at it, it has never been more expensive to buy a piece of those future cash flows. this strongly implies returns will be poor.

Stocks go up about 70% of the time. Obviously that’s not 100%, but it makes sense to be long term bullish.

right, the conventional wisdom says stocks go up in any given 20 year period (in the US). I'm saying – what if we were looking at a nikkei 1989 situation?
