Great to see the Red Cross is open about spending $ on administration costs. Charity without administration costs involves leaving a tub of $ on the street and letting anybody take it. Good charity, with proper due diligence and accountability, costs $. Well done Red Cross.

The charities sector has hit back at calls for bushfire donations to go to a “centralised” fund instead of people donating directly to big NFPs, with sector experts saying there would be little difference to how donations reach bushfire victims.

I’m not across the details of any specific admin cost by charities in getting money to bush fire impacted communities - that said the incredibly simple statement of admin cost = bad is a terrible narrative and needs to stop. We should be asking about impact not admin cost.
