How consumers in China employ, "a range of risk relieving strategies to support food purchasing judgements, in the perceived absence of regulatory protection" from food crime. An interesting read.

Good from the SFO's General Counsel on the centality of proceeds of crime investigation in any holistic approach to acquisitive crime. This is why the NFCU will have a dedicated Financial Investigation Team in place by the end of March

On Monday the NFCU moved formally to its interim organisational structure. This is a key point in our transition to amongst the strongest end to end counter food crime capabilities globally. A comprehensive response to a single crime type. Exciting times.

Just been interviewed by following the 's speech about ending . We need an 'online green cross code' to empower children, by giving them the information they need to protect themselves online

Huge thanks to for inviting me to his impressive facility in Lincolnshire. Although I suspect it will always be possible to write my knowledge of food science on the back of a postage stamp (with a thick marker pen) I learnt so much today.

Me: When you're older, what things will you look for in a boyfriend? Daughter: Salad. That's it. Me: Salad? Daughter: Yes, he must eat salad. Pleased she values a healthy diet and there's still some way to go but I was hoping at 8 she'd be aiming higher than a ruminant.

An example from last year of the pioneering proactive work being done by the NFCU with support from partners at the ports.

I first tasted this darkly savoury confection this spring and it was the start of a beautiful and enduring relationship. Sophisticated it's not (a bit like me I guess) but it is beery, spicy, cheesy and versatile beyond belief.

Hmm. At the risk of coming over as a killjoy, I've always been slightly uncomfortable with the use of food as this kind of entertainment. I get the tradition, I just don't get the waste of good food.

Couldn't spend anywhere near enough time this evening at Richard Hoskin's leaving do owing to unforeseeable operational matters and a competing commitment with our consultants. One of the many great things about RH is that I know he would understand.

"We tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run.” Real use cases will doubtless emerge in time but I feel they may not be the same ones folk are throwing blockchain at in 2018.

I've lost count of the number of superficial and essentially trite articles I've read on food crime. This intelligent and thorough piece on fraud in the produce sector is most definitely not one of them.

For anyone with even a passing interest in food crime this is essential reading. The dynamics of the global vanilla trade create near perfect conditions for multiple variants of food crime at many points along the supply chain.

In 1990 someone believed enough in a rather awkward 24 year old to give him his first job in law enforcement. Quite a punt. Three decades later I’m still here & I would never want to do anything else. We’re hiring (And yes, I’m still rather awkward)

It's been a great week at NFCU Towers welcoming our new Intelligence Analyst to the team, and introducing her to the complex world of food crime. Inductions always remind me just how much I've learnt in the past 3 years and how far we've come since the early days!

So true and probably the first appearance of the word ‘competencies’ in a work of poetry. Which is odd when you consider how many words rhyme with it......😀
