now i constantly see people talk about how detransitioners "chose" to transition and no-one made them do it. promoting the narrative that dysphoric people must transition to be happy is coervice and the same people who say detrans people "chose to transition" are still doing so!

i feel like people who were never trans don't understand that there was no wiggle room on this. the message, loud and clear, was that it's transition or death. there was no third option, and even waiting was considered risky, in case you ended up being too old, and not passing...

in which case, what would happen? you would kill yourself. all roads except /instantly/ medically transitioning would lead to your suicide. and don't even get me started on top surgery being viewed as 'optional' - this is only true if you didn't have dysphoria about your chest!

because if you did have chest dysphoria, again, you literally had to get a mastectomy or you would kill yourself. or you could bind - until the pain and damage to your breasts, ribs and back drove you to have to stop, and get the surgery.

i don't understand how in the past literal one year, now that detrans narratives have escaped the control of the trans community, they've so dramatically switched gears from "not transitioning will kill you" to "transitioning is a freely made decision, no pressure!"

and this isn't even getting into the escalating nature of transition, and how it's very easy to say "surgery is a choice" until you're a stealth, passing ftm with breasts, and the possibility of what could happen if people find this out is maybe more dangerous than surgery.

because in so many cases, transitioning makes dysphoria worse by increasing the perceived incorgruity between ones body and identity, and making hiding ones actual sex a daily concern. many trans people aren't even warned about this - not fair for "decision making".

just, if you're going to say medical transition is a choice, you need to acknowledge that there is only one nhs-approved and trans community approved treatment for gender dysphoria, and this was especially true 5+ years ago. how is that a choice?

This is shocking. Not being in the community, I haven't heard this before. Do you feel like there was excessive pressure from doctors or peers to transition?
-
i was never involved with doctors (i'm not detrans, only reidentified) but from peers... it wasn't even pressure, it was just a given that if you have dysphoria, you will transition as soon as you can.
