    Honoraria: Getting at least $500 USD for a talk/seminar is not unusual and it’s on the lower end of the pay scale. $1,500-2,000 are not unusual. In the social sciences >$2,500 per talk seems rare. Consulting: $300 USD an hour is normal consultant rate, $2,000 per day is ok too.

    Okay, but if we generally SUUUUUCK at talking about these things, how do we even know what to charge? Every time I've been brought on as an evaluator it's been like 'You go first" "NO, you go first," "No, YOU go first" in terms of figuring out a payscale.

    I have been wondering these days..!!. I feel academia writes too mechanical, and this turns to widen the current gap with the policy environment......!!!. Academia should do more to connect to society, and publications can contribute!!!.

    This "Focus To-Do" app looks great! Pomodoro timer and to-do list both in one place. It has projects! It gives daily/weekly reports. And it syncs with PC. I'm in love!

    : R expects forward slashes when setting a filepath but Windows gives backslashes. On Windows, copy+paste a filepath & de-windowsify it using: setwd(readClipboard()) (This is for lazy path setting - for a reproducible solution try .rproj or here::here).

    Hot take: grad student stipends should be based on the cost of living (rent especially) in the city where the university is. Fun fact: the average rent of a 1 bdr in Toronto is $2300. The student stipend is less.

    Have you heard of a LIVE textbox? You can type text on a PowerPoint slide while you are in presentation mode ! It can be a great way to record responses from students, to collect ideas from the audience in response to a question...what else?
