While pursuing virtual prey, monkeys predict the prey’s upcoming movements, and neurons in the dorsal anterior cingulate cortex tracked prey position, velocity, and acceleration to facilitate these predictions

Another classic way to solve this problem is with anatomy: separate evaluation and execution regions. That solves the problem easily, but unfortunately, our recent data do not support such an anatomical sequestration. “Everything is everywhere”

The most exciting implication is that motor system principles might also apply to the reward/choice system. That’s bad because we all have to learn some new math, but it’s good because it means we can hope for a Grand Unified Theory of action and choice.

hypothesized that the brain’s economic choice regions, OFC and vmPFC, might do the same thing in choice. He took data from a choice task in which deliberation and execution were separated in time, and found evidence for orthogonalization between the two phases.

How do internal states shape an animal's behavior? How do you even know what state an animal is in? My paper with showing how to infer internal state, and how it helps us better understand the nervous system, now in !

Little experimental research has tested the link between math anxiety and math avoidance. A new study looks at people with “math anxiety,” with results showing how it could ultimately steer individuals away from careers.

University of Rochester hopes to encourage sympathy for Jaeger, despite his derailing the education and careers of over 16 women — the worst thing that happened to Jaeger is he was publicly criticized. Use of power against victims.

Valeria's lab is in Argentina where, like many countries, research budgets are small. After her paper was reviewed at Human Brain Mapping, they wanted $3.2K. She could not afford it. So HBM refused to publish the paper.

I stayed in a masters program to delay my PhD; I switched from string theory to neuro in post doc to explore; I turned town a faculty position to prolong my post doc - always with the goal of learning. And those decisions, which slowed me down, I would repeat if given the chance!
