I'm trying to imagine my department advertising everyone looking for a job. Or open discussion of exciting candidates for the year (like some sort of NBA draft) Neuroscience has this weird psuedosecrecy where everyone pretends they have no idea who is looking for a job

I am really curious about the structural - or path-dependent? - differences between academic departments. Are there actually explainable variables or is it just neutral drift???
There was a tweet I read recently from some economists that was about how you would interview in the hotel room of existing profs while at the conference. Totally demented if you ask me.
Interesting. I've seen people in computer science even put their research statement/teaching statement etc. up on their websites. I can't even imagine someone from neuroscience doing that!
