That's because prosecution is not a effective response.
#EndTheDrugWar, which our economists reliably say will make our city safer and stop overdoses.https://twitter.com/chesaboudin/status/1279449608033316865?lang=en …Paul added,
Chesa Boudin 博徹思Verified account @chesaboudinReplying to @chezpim @MattHaneySFFact: approximately 20% of my general felony team's caseload are drug sales. We do prosecute these cases, everyday, for better or worse. As we've learned from the war on drugs after all these decades of failure: this is not a problem we can police or prosecute our way out of.2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

Yes The war on drugs is a failure. Do you support mandatory forced rehab for those who wont accept help with addiction or is the passive offer of rehab your solution. Or something else entirely? Letting people live and die on the streets is unacceptable

First, I do not support mandatory treatment because, "Recent research suggests that coerced and involuntary treatment is actually less effective in terms of long-term substance use outcomes, and more dangerous in terms of overdose risk."

As the Iron Law of prohibition describes, "Thornton says that if drugs are legalized, then consumers will begin to wean themselves off the higher potency forms, for instance with cocaine users buying coca leaves, and heroin users switching to opium."https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_law_of_prohibition …
