What does it take for @chesaboudin to put someone in prison? Still waiting for the answer to that question, but evidently it does not include homicide.https://twitter.com/SusanDReynolds/status/1436376904337035266 …

Replying to @DavidSacks @chesaboudin
Does the DA's office really not secure custodial sentences for *anyone* at all? That seems hard to believe. Is there an easily-accessible dataset of prison terms for those prosecuted by the SF DA's office? One row per sentence, with date, term and some sort of unique person ID?

Sure, but the reality of the situation fundamentally disagrees with the fear-mongering. The data is available, and reasonable so long as you respect science.https://jkalven.medium.com/dont-believe-the-lie-that-da-boudin-is-not-bringing-charges-4e8a8c2a1fe6 …

If the DA isn't going to prosecute crimes, of course the police won't bring as many cases to the DA, bringing only the ones most likely to be accepted. If police won't/can't help people get justice, of course people won't report most crimes. The stats don't tell the full story.

Replying to @RahimNathwani @netfire4 and
Further distorting the stats about the % of cases that are charged, is the fact that the DA's office often charges for a misdemeanor, even when a felony was committed.

No distortion is needed when a broader statistical approach is more appropriate. Simply, criminal justice reform makes our city safer compared to antique self destructive tough on crime policy.https://mobile.twitter.com/RachelRMarshall/status/1430670203591876608 …

You cited anecdotes of someone who felt that things were getting less safe, because there is no professional work that supports the counterproductive insanity that is "tough on crime" it didn't work before, it won't work, stop brutalizing your neighbors.https://mobile.twitter.com/ScottHech/status/1435746270140723201 …
