My heart is bursting. On the eve of my first child's birth, my dad - who's been in prison nearly my entire life - was granted clemency. He never intended harm, yet his crime devastated many families. My heart breaks for the families that can never get their loved ones back.

Not to dig or score points but, what was he convicted of? Also, congratulations on having your father back in your life and in the life of his grandchild.

Felony murder for driving the getaway car from a bank robbery, other participants in the robbery were armed and killed three people. More generally he was convicted of "Felony Murder" A concept now recognized by our judicial system as unjust.

How is it unjust? You are part of a bank robbery and your partner pulls the trigger you are guilty of murder. Next thing you'll say hiring a hitman isn't murder either. David Gilbert is a convicted murderer and terrorist.
