Can you say more about why safe injection sites help? I have a hard time imagining how this works. We have 25k intravenous drug users here. Is the idea they go there to use? Don't most want to use with friends?

The data collection benefits alone are substantial. Safe injection cites at least give substance abuse social workers and counselors an opportunity to interact with opioid addicts to track the what, why, and who, in addition to offering rehabilitative assistance.

Out treatment professionals having access to those with substance use disorder in need of treatment in a safe venue is indeed a central reason why SIP is so much of a safer strategy.
