Everyone note: @MattHaneySF has made little noises about dealing/addiction in some recent posts, but look: he makes NO mention of it here. it's impossible to solve any of the stated issues w/out disrupting the illegal drug trade, yet this "legislator" focuses on pet projects.

There is not a historical example where increases in enforcement has ever decreased available drug supply. More enforcement results in higher prices, more incentive and finally more drugs being dealt on our streets. Our drug war, and prohibition generally have always failed!pic.twitter.com/fUnYvlFN4V

That paper does not provide evidence that enforcement has no effect on drug sales and drug use.

actually it shows that the increases in enforcement cause both increases in violence and usage.

Because law enforcement might increase as drug use and dealing increase, you can say whether not there a casual relationship either way. Drug crime, use or violence is increasing in SF, yet we have relatively low rates of enforcement. Why?

Are the number and types of arrests in SF influenced by the DA office’s policies? I think it’s highly likely.

About 25% of my general felony team caseload is drug sales. It's a huge distraction from violent crime. Come watch court any day of the week and you'll see felony drug sales cases being prosecuted. Don't blame me because the war on drugs has been a total failure since inception.

Yes, but consider your source. Drug prosecutions are down. Drug crime and deaths are up. One data point here: pretty sure you’ll see the same most years.https://www.kqed.org/news/11750997/s-f-district-attorney-launches-public-website-showing-years-of-prosecution-data …
