I'm happy our scarce resources are headed towards medical care, and not towards mass incarceration.
That is something @chesaboudin means there will be more of to me.

SF has not had a system focused on incarnation for over a decade. Boudin is not a pioneer here. He is slotting into the harm-reduction regime that precede him. Hard to call that system a success given the death and chaos that has become common place in our city.

Uh, just because were not incarcerating quite as many people as the rest of our incarceration happy nation, does not mean we do not have a mass incarceration problem. We still have more people incarcerated than any country in europe by capita.

I have not seen an incarceration rate comparison between a representative EU nation and SF. I have seen compassions between SF and other CA cities and ours is and has been since Gascon much much much lower.

It looks to be about 2x 3x of European countries, and about half of Russia, which is also in Europe.

Russia is russia, not really a part of europe, or asia.

I think we differ in our interpretation of Friedman. I’m convinced that the steps you are describing would come naturally, after applying free markets. I think you want to do it in reverse, start here, and later deal with the broader system.

I think that there is good evidence to show that increases in enforcement lead to more violence. And Incremental decriminalization reduces violence.

And yeah, being elite in the US. I just remembered those two kids from Marin that killed a cop in Rome. Most non American kids would enjoy the architecture and the arts. These two landed and went straight to score coke. The US is too rich, and too shallow.

My point with this is that bread and games can be “repurposed”. Sure when I went to Amsterdam at 16 I smoked weed, but I also went to Van Gogh and remrandts museums, Anne frank house etc

Me too! Amsterdam is too gorgeous and orderly to let a war be fought there. They don't fight the drug war practically either, preserving the city and the Van Gogh is just obviously more important. I love that city! I want it here in sf.

My favorite bit that the city does are free museum days.
