So sorry chef. I
your restaurant & wish we could do more to support businesses like yours. What I cannot do is jail people because of their addiction or double down on the failed war on drugs. We need to make it easier to get help than it is to get high in SF.

My van a blue and grey 2001 gmc savana explorer high top, I bought figuring it would be ugly enough to exist in the city got stolen last Wednesday night(after my Ducati was stolen in February) Honestly happy to hear jail will not be contemplated. Though I would like my van back.

Wow what the fuck. Your van was stolen and you don't want the stealers to go to jail? What will stop them from stealing another van?

Well if I get my van back I'm installing LoJack I know it's expensive but for me the peace of mind is worth it. I certainly don't want to pay to incarcerate someone at 85k/yr for a decade over a few thousand dollar van. My vans not worth that 8,500,000 societal cost.

How about a few months instead of 10 years? The long term damage that the person who stole your van will do is very high

Agreed they damage society including me, as a victim of this crime of theft. I no longer have use of my van and thus am injured.... Now I guess we discuss the extent of the injury, my new van was comprehensively insured, my insurance company is probably more injured than I.
