Were winters in Kyiv as snowy as I remember them as a kid? Did they get much less snowy in recent decades? I wanted to find out, so I made this visualization, and learned much more from it than I expected.

Whenever I see hot takes like this (pops up a lot with music) I always think of this quote. The process is the important part, not the tools you use. :)

I found at least 6 (28%!!!) of design patterns superseded in my favorite programming language: , , , , , . How many of 21 are superseded in your favorite programming language?

In many cases you only need GPU/TPU for training, while inference works perfectly fine on a commodity CPU.

Here is my interpretation of the paper “Effects Without Monads” in Scala 3! (it’s written in a literate programming style so that you can learn more about some shiny features of Dotty such as runtime code generation)

Kudos to everyone who contributed to making Mendix the Software Vendor of the year. Especially to my colleagues from RnD from different teams who believed in and and showed on practice how to make impossible possible. Go make it!

Want to sell to business owners? Remember the trifecta: 1. higher performance, lower infra costs (JVM) 2. lower defect rate (FP, static typing) 3. higher employee retention (the cool factor, a lot of learning potential, keeps people happy)

Not just about static typing, internals of many Python libs are built in C and messy to migrate (Ruby did not have the same issue), but a good point ... static typing + solid runtime is why I'm confident that the Scala 3 migration will go well (if implementation is solid)
