Jesus. The doubling down on how "careful" they were with their study despite getting something as basic as the formula for variance wrong is astounding. This would be like one of my colleagues publishing results on arXiv with one of Maxwell's equations incorrect.

I think that's a broad overgeneralization. In fact, what you see from the first question is exactly the opposite: an "intellectual elite" taking the authors to task directly for the problems with the work and their overselling of it.

It's confusing to me that they keep saying they use an open science model without putting out any data or code. Their complaints about the "open science model" all seem to stem from not being open.
