I don't really understand the whole testing and memorization thing in the modern era where we have access to all of human knowledge at our fingertips.

What's at your fingertips is 15% all human knowledge and 85% misinformation. "Testing and memorization" is there to create a mental structure with strong criteria to filter said misinformation out. Those who only rely on their fingertips end up along the MAGAtards.
