Well then this is really gonna blow your mindhttps://youtu.be/0upDjcbOaAU

What blew my mind was that I got a reply from you, personally. As a dignified man of science, husband and father I have to say SQUEEEEEEEE! (happy dance)
-
Oh congrats on the butterfly!

The most frequently spoken words upon making a scientific discovery are not “A Ha!” or “Eureka!,” but “Huh, that’s odd…”

Politicians are creatures who generally have at least a few whopper lies in their past and hope to use more in the future to gain popularity; for this reason they are fundamentally opposed to quests for truth.
-
Delaying policy response to real problems allows those who profit from the status quo to continue profiting as long as possible; the costs of this inaction are seen as being imposed on others (even when imposed upon all).

I very much agree with the sentiment. Members of scientific circles have access to papers and studies that prove/disprove certain hypotheses. For many they are locked behind expensive journal subscriptions limiting the ability of people to inform themselves.
-
I wonder if the first step is to democratize access and help make the content more accessible to literate citizens.
-
Otherwise, you have citizens having to implicitly trust certain individuals, whether scientists or politicians. Politicians tend to be more persuasive and certainly more power.
-
In my next election I hope to be able to say “citation please” to candidates to back up their claims.

One of the strange rebuttals I have heard when it comes to climate change is: I don’t want people to make a lot of money from enforcing new policies/restrictions/taxes on ppl only to find out that the human involvement in climate change is negligible. It is fear based thinking.

Love this - but I like your "most astounding fact" about the universe video better - as an elementary school science teacher I combine it with the book Older than the Stars to start my solar system units - inspires and engages to the point of dropped jaws
