If Pluto is not a planet it's name should be demoted to a number like 12456. Cool names should be reserved for planets not interfering with the orbital paths of other planets.
-
it's actually officially 134340. but it gets to keep the name, too.
-
Do you actually know the number, or are just making stuff up? I thought you needed top secret access to the scientists name making kit. Wish I could name something.
-
-
You couldn't even get poor PLUTO a special number like 139999? Sheeeeesh!

Brian Marsden tried to get Pluto to be 100000. Pluto promoters refused to even allow the possibility to be considered. So Pluto got put in the queue like any other insignificant asteroid, instead. Sad but true.

I appreciate what Dr. Marsden tried to do. The NAIF/SPICE codes for Pluto and satellites are still: 9 'PLUTO_BARYCENTER' 999 'PLUTO' 901 'CHARON' 902 'NIX' 903 'HYDRA' 904 'KERBEROS' 905 'STYX' https://naif.jpl.nasa.gov/pub/naif/toolkit_docs/C/req/naif_ids.html …

true. we can demote Pluto, but changing legacy code is a definitely a step too far.
