Just an FYI: The proper word for someone from Venus, -- the planet of love, beauty, and its consequences — is “Venereal.” But medical doctors took the word before astrophysicists did. So we’re stuck with “Venusians”.

Pretty sure venereal comes from the adjective "Venereus" and not the noun "Venus." The "-al" is a suffix slapped onto Latin loan words and means "pertaining to" or "of the kind of" (according to http://Dictionary.com ). No genitive I know of ends with "-al."
-
The genitive of Venus is Veneris. Nominative - Venus Accusative - Venerem Genitive - Veneris Dative - Veneri Ablative -Venere Vocative - Venus Awww, hell. I'm too tired to ascend the rostrum to give a Latin lesson.pic.twitter.com/wgv0KtBMhx

Ah, there's the problem: I'm talking about English and you're talking about Latin.
-
Because English is the most proper language of all and doesn't use Latin roots for all of its scientific purposes, right?
-
Because English is the language we're speaking right now, and word usages adapt all the time.
-
A vast amount of our English language comes from Latin including the word venuspic.twitter.com/rdPxNL4j3H

This changes everything

You want to discuss English? That language made up of a mixture of different other languages? Ah yeah, that one? Okay then

From what I can tell, the Latin genitive of Venus is Veneris (singular) or Venerum (plural). http://latindictionary.wikidot.com/noun:venus In this database containing Latin texts, you'll find veneris and venerum, but not venereal. http://latin.packhum.org/search?q=venereal … Do you have a source for your claim?

I love you both but Dan is right on this. In English we take loan words, not loan grammar. Venusian is the proper derivative demonym of Venus for English-speakers, and venerial already has a meaning as a loan word.
-
Also I can't spell venereal lol.

There's a surprising lack of linguistic rigor in this discussion. The goddess, and thereafter the planet, derives from the common noun venus (sexual love). The genitive is veneris, of sexual love, whence venereal.A demonym formed from Venus would be Venerian or Venusian, not venereal

Would people from Pluto be "Plutonians" or do they not count because they're not a true planet?
-
Plutocrats
