But total pizza area grows exponentially with the radius. So even a slight increase in diameter can be significant in terms of its value as food

Same BS as every year, Mr dG T ... If you can't see the difference between a pizza and a pizza with 30% more area (apogee vs. perigee moon), you have a serious issue. The latter one - for the same prize! - would be quite "super" indeed.

Is it really 30%? I mean, yes, I do see a difference when comparing my photos, but that difference seems to be smaller than that.

1.14^2 = 1.3 -> it's a pretty strong effect, for me at least - see the links in https://skyweek.wordpress.com/2017/11/21/allgemeines-live-blog-ab-dem-21-november/#Dez03 … for more insights.

Well, the corresponding diagrams here https://scilogs.spektrum.de/go-for-launch/wie-super-ist-der-supermond/ … state that it's not really 30% between the two extremes. But it certainly is more than 16.1 vs. 16.0. Guess I'll just have to count pixels in future. :D

        Look at https://twitter.com/gakugei_osm/status/936870884328972288 … and do the math: 40.5/35.5 = 1.14. QED (and a well-known number anyway).

(江越) pic.twitter.com/iD8YzLUIxe
