In school, students cheat because the system values high grades more than students value learning.

This response was due to her desire to learn for the sake of knowledge alone, even after getting a poor grade in her history class.

Her diary reads that she'd always apply her love of knowledge in school and beyond, hoping to carry this attitude with her throughout life.

Surely it is this sort of attitude that we should all strive for, in our education systems as well as in life outside school.

Students who actually value learning are punished because their grades aren't as perfect as the students who cheat.

Couldn't agree more. They value high grades and squash creativity, this is exactly why we are looking for alternatives for our son!

The system values grades because it's easier to measure than a person's actual learning. Grades exist to make it easy for others to judge.

If anyone finds a way to measure someone's actual learning then the focus can be shifted from looking at grades to looking at that
