Total Solar Eclipses occur somewhere on Earth every two years, or so. So just calm yourself when people tell you they're rare

But the last solar eclipse that was seen from the North American continent was 38 years ago, so to some they are rare☺️

FYI: The Olympics moves around the world almost as much as eclipses, and with the same frequency, yet nobody calls them rare.

True! Never have had the opportunity to see that either. All around the world but if you do not have money to travel it is rare to see.

I like you and everything but sometimes you come across Like a pompous ass. Do you want people excited about our solar system or not?

Odd that we live in a time where telling people what is true in the face of what is false comes across as being a pompous ass

No, deliberately missing the point (eclipses are rare *in any given place* on earth) to make a technical correction does.

C'mon, most people can't travel the globe chasing eclipses. If you live close to totality for this one, it's a can't-miss opportunity!

A 50-year-old living now likely has three more chances to see a total eclipse in the US in their lifetime: 2024, 2044, and 2045.

The last of these will only barely touch Montana and North Dakota. The eclipses may be common, but the opportunities to catch them are rare.

Moreover, the experience is utterly unique. A 90% partial is nowhere near 90% as good as a total eclipse. Unmissable if you get the chance.

"Worth traveling 2 see it" I agree. But nothing says THAT traveling needs not be outside the country, in which case .. See Dr Tyson's point

Fair point; well said. I guess that's what he meant, but I knew folks who took it as "nbd, I'll see one in 2 years." Just wanted to clarify.
