@neiltyson If the earth's spin is from West to East, would that make a plane flying Westward take shorter time to arrive to destination.

Now what about rocket launches? I know they tend to launch closer to the equator, but is that related to the Earth's rotation?

I Think this has more to do with potential weather, desired target orbits, and supporting infrastructure.

Less about weather. More about proximity to equator (=speed&more orbits) and having a safe flight path track (ocean/v. sparsely populated)
