It's not about the money. It's about sending a message.

-
What message is that exactly?
-
That if something doesn't directly generate profit, it's of no value to them and they'll destroy it.
-
And there is the problem in thinking government = business. It isn't at all.

@neiltyson I drove across the US. Would've never got there if I said meh this 1st 1/4 mile is irrelevant -
.
@neiltyson also comparing it 2 the total budget is misleading. The point is to try to reduce the deficit. You should know that b4 u comment -
If the point were to reduce the deficit, they wouldn't then spend it on military. The point is to reallocate.
-
the military is necessary, government subsidizing art isn't. If we had the money I'd be fine w it. We don't
-
But your military is already bigger then the the other top 9 militaries combined.
-
yeah that's not true. We do spend more but not when you compare it reasonably, like per gdp or per cap

Improved: Cutting NEA & NEH to save money on a $3-trillion budget is like getting a 1/4-mile head start in a race across the US.

THANK YOU. From the bottom of my heart (and every
#artists heart) THANK YOU!!!#SavetheNEA#ArtMatters#operageek -
Art does matter but I should only have to pay for the art I want
-
Given your feed and what you choose to retweet, I know this is a losing battle, but I'll try. The 'art you want'? 1/1
-
2/2 What then would that be? Would it include PBS? NPR? Programs that educate & drive children to learn? I'm curious

Maybe you are doing a thing called 'parenting'. Not every kid is that lucky. PBS shows kids 1/1
-
2/2 Art styles, music styles, science facts, many things that many children don't have access to.
-
3/3 Maybe your kid is lucky! Maybe you take them to opera, and ballet, and theatre. Many kids don't get to.
