Hi @neiltyson. For anything (not just math) beyond our "complexity horizon," we'd be in position of dogs trying to learn constitutional law.

Hi
@neiltyson I didn’t mean to slight dogs, especially since a brilliant one, Shmata, who can do a lot that I can't, is at my feet. - 1 more reply

@neiltyson Please tell me the reason for PEMDAS rule. I just learned it in English.@JohnAllenPaulos -
@EarthenBlueSky7@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos lol some people on fb had a crazy argument about this: some said 10...pic.twitter.com/mIH9IP0Fxh

@pilotlars The answer is zero?@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos -
@EarthenBlueSky7@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos but some people think addition needs to be done prior to subtraction. That skews the solution. -
@pilotlars Introduce something like this and I'm confused: - 3 - (-8) + (+5) = ... - 6 or 16?@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos -
@pilotlars And yet - 3 is still a minus? Does +(+5) become -5? Are the rules logical?@neiltyson@JohnAllenPaulos -
@EarthenBlueSky7 I meant yes and no. Sorry. -3 is a term. If you put them in parenthesis it may be easier. (-3)+(+5)=2 - 1 more reply
